Welcome to Pearce Bottomley Architects

We are a Chartered Architectural Practice based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, providing architectural services across Yorkshire and the North of England. Since 1957, we have been creating thoughtful, practical, and inspiring buildings for residential, commercial, community and ecclesiastical clients.

We are recognised for our expertise in the conservation, repair and adaptation of listed buildings, historic properties, churches and heritage assets. Our team includes an award-winning AABC Accredited Conservation Architect together with RIBA Conservation Architects, providing specialist knowledge in building conservation, heritage-led regeneration, and the sensitive restoration of historic buildings.

Alongside our conservation work, we provide architectural services for residential, commercial, community and leisure projects. From bespoke homes, house extensions and residential developments to commercial premises and public buildings, we deliver creative, well-considered solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

We embrace sustainable construction methods, energy-efficient design, and Passivhaus principles to create buildings that reduce environmental impact, improve comfort, and deliver long-term performance. Our team includes a Passivhaus specialist and member of the International Passive House Association (iPHA), bringing specialist expertise to sustainable new-build and retrofit projects.

As Chartered Architects we are committed to delivering thoughtful, functional, and environmentally responsible architecture.
Our team is here to help.

Our expertise starts with innovative design right through to detailed project execution. We specialise in creating sustainable and engaging spaces, incorporating renewable technologies and environmentally friendly materials.

Our design philosophy is rooted in a deep understanding of how people live their lives and interact with their surroundings, ensuring every project from concept to completion is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. See some of our work in our gallery. Below are our key services.

Our Services

Design

Over the years, our team has amassed a unique blend of knowledge and experience of how people interact with the built environment.

Conservation

From projects in conservation areas, featured on Historic England’s grades II, II* and I list, on scheduled ancient monuments and in historic parks and gardens.

Project Management

From initial written briefs, project programmes and budget estimates, we make sure the client’s expectations are understood.

Contract Administration

Based on an extremely thorough foundation of information we put together formal building contracts between employer and contractor.

Construction Design Management

Certain types of building projects need a Principal Designer. As corporate members of the Association for Project Safety, we fulfil this role.

Public Consultation

From inner cities to rural communities, from housing estates to schools, from high streets to health facilities, we bring communities together to explore ways they can develop.

With six decades of experience, our expertise has been finely honed, ensuring every project receives a touch of unparalleled quality. Our approach is deeply personal, tailoring designs to your unique brief and vision, embracing innovation in new build and eco homes, while maintaining a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility. It’s the PBA individuals, philosophy, history, and accolades that shape our identity, define our legacy and create our ongoing story.

Why us?

An example of residential architecture from Pearce Bottomley Architects

After 60 years of practice, the principles of Pearce Bottomley Architects’ founders continue to guide our work. Anthony’s attention to detail, technical understanding and absolute dedication to a project, were the perfect marriage with Derek’s love of our art and his recognition of the importance of a long-term relationship with our clients, our craftsmen and our buildings. These values continue to inform and shape our Practice today.

What Our Clients Say About Us

"We used Pearce Bottomley Architects for a major project at my workplace, and an extension to my home, and they were fantastic. From design ideas, to survey, to working drawings, they were communicative, supportive and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again and to recommend them."

Graham Robbins

"Pearce Bottomley designed and managed our new house build. They are a great team to work with, professional & caring about their clients. It is testament to them that we asked them to work with us again on a bungalow we bought in 2019 which needed a full renovation. An excellent firm of architects and we would have no hesitation in recommending them."

Tom Kenny
