St Mary's Church, Wycliffe
Contractor
T Manners and Sons
Location
Wycliffe
This carefully designed extension to St Mary’s Church, Wycliffe—a Grade I listed medieval church in North Yorkshire—demonstrates how conservation architecture can respectfully integrate modern functionality into sensitive historic settings.
The project responded to a clear need for inclusive, accessible facilities, discreetly adding a level-access entrance, accessible WC, kitchenette, and flexible gathering space.
Our approach centred on minimal intervention, material sensitivity, and functional enhancement.
By reactivating the previously unused north door, new facilities were introduced without compromising the 14th-century stained glass, Saxon stonework, or bespoke woodwork by the Mouseman of Kilburn, all of which remain untouched.
