Ben Rhydding, Ilkley

Our residential architecture team worked closely with the homeowners to design and deliver a bespoke home renovation and extension of a traditional three-storey stone semi-detached property in Ben Rhydding, near Ilkley, West Yorkshire.

This architect-designed residential project was completed in two phases. Phase 1 introduced new dormer windows, enhancing natural light and space in the upper floor. Phase 2 focused on a high-quality single-storey rear extension, carefully designed to create a large open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that connects directly to the rear garden.

To maximise garden access and outdoor living potential, the extension was built at a lower level than the original house, linking seamlessly to a newly created terrace while maintaining a fluid connection to the existing elevated living room.

The modern extension features a striking charred timber rainscreen façade and corrugated metal roofing, creating a bold contrast to the traditional stonework and enhancing the overall character of the home.
