Introducing new team member Josh Sykes – Chartered Architect

Josh joins PBA from a commercial development focused background and brings a very ‘hands-on’ and practical approach to design. Josh has experience working on a wide variety of projects from inception to completion, including the National RIBA Award winning mixed-use refurbishment scheme at Albert Works in Sheffield. Josh lives for the moment when a building is no longer something which exists only on paper, but emerges from the ground and has its own physical presence and unique character.

With a passion for a light-touch approach to architecture and a tendency toward simple material palettes, he has a special interest in conservation and heritage projects, and is currently listed on the RIBA Conservation Register as a Conservation Registrant. Josh’s new role at PBA enables him to build on this, and he is currently working toward registration with AABC (Architects Accredited in Building Conservation).

In the past, Josh has had practical experience working part-time on building sites, and being a key member of the fabrication team for ‘Digital Capabilities’ which won a gold medal at the 2013 RHS Chelsea flower show. He lives in a ‘work-in-progress’ house with his wife Rebecca, who runs her own design company, where their combined design skills along with previous ‘on the tools’ experience are constantly put to the test.
