Introducing new team member Esmé Greenan

We are pleased to welcome Esmé Greenan to Pearce Bottomley Architects. Esmé joins us as a Part 3 student studying at Leeds Beckett University and will be aiding our conservation architects with their large portfolio of heritage projects.

“Since my undergraduate degree at the Glasgow School of Art in 2018, during my Part 1 placement, and throughout my Masters degree, I have been fascinated by the conservation of historic buildings. This encompasses their sensitive repair and restoration, and how historic structures can be best adapted and reused to suit modern needs. In the face of the Climate Emergency, better reusing our historic building stock is one of the best ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry. In doing so, we can create more characterful and dynamic spaces, while continuing the evolution and life of an old building.”

“I believe that an understanding of historic materials is fundamental to being able to effectively care for heritage structures, so I am hoping to enrol onto SPAB courses and workshops in the summer to increase my knowledge of different historic materials, skills, and crafts. This will, in turn, help with the slow renovation of my flat situated within a Category B Listed Stables which I share with my partner in Scotland. When not working with Pearce Bottomley in Tadcaster, I can be found hiking, kayaking, canoeing or sailing with him and our dog. Our last adventure took us to the islands of Jura and Seil, and we have plans to get to Knoydart later in the year which is only accessible by boat, or by a 16 mile walk!”
