The Welcome Project at St Mary's Church transformed this historic village church into a more accessible, flexible, and welcoming space.
Internal works included the installation of a discreet kitchenette at the west end, an accessible WC, level access with an access ramp, upgraded heating and drainage systems, and the relocation of the font. Around half of the existing pews were removed to create a versatile multi-use space.
A key feature of the project was the integration of the modern facilities behind a beautifully crafted oak screen, ensuring conveniences were introduced with minimal visual impact on the historic interior.
Externally, the project included essential conservation works. Roof repairs, together with extensive repointing to the church walls and spire, were undertaken.
The project was delivered in collaboration with retired local architect Michael Wildblood.
