Saxton Cricket Club

Forward-thinking sustainable architecture for the heart of a Yorkshire village community

Saxon Cricket Club, Saxton, North Yorkshire: Commercial

Client:  Saxton Cricket Club
Value:  £300K
Contractor: R Barker

Saxton Cricket Club’s building is the only cricket pavilion in the country to have received Sport England funding. The importance of its role in the wider community of the villages of Saxton and Towton is reflected in the fact that the grant was match-funded by the community.

The results are attractive, practical - and sustainable. Housing changing facilities, a club room, a large raised veranda and a full catering kitchen, it's now an A-rated energy building.

The design includes an air-source heat pump, underfloor heating, high levels of insulation, solar shading and a rainwater harvesting system. A thoughtful and forward-thinking building for the community to gather around.

Christening the smart new facilities was a nail-biting opening match between Saxton Cricket Club and Yorkshire Ladies.
