The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They celebrate the achievements and successes of RICS professionals and their impact on local communities. The project at The Great Barn in Skipton has been shortlisted in two categories; Commercial and Building Conservation.
The largest medieval aisled barn in northern England was restored as single clear space, with important historical vistas of significance to the Romantic Movement reinstated towards the Priory ruins and River Wharfe.
The repair philosophy was governed by a fundamental understanding of the history of the building and its surrounds, and its relationship with the Priory; conserving the historic fabric and rustic character to restore the barn for use as a high quality wedding venue with minimal visual intervention and with no material alterations.
The shortlisting for such a prestigious award is a proud achievement for Pearce Bottomley Architects and we extend a warm congratulations to the rest of the shortlisted projects in the Yorkshire and Humber area.
