Pearce Bottomley Architects’ sensitive restoration of the Grade II* listed barn at Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire, has won the Commercial category at the national RICS awards 2019.

The former agricultural store, originally built in 1519, has been transformed into arguably one of the best wedding venues in the country and was described by the RICS judging team as “exemplary”.

Restoration of The Great Tithe Barn has proved to be immensely popular and the increased rental income generated by the project will ensure that payback of the seven-figure development cost will be achieved within the projected seven-year period.

“…the confidence given by this project has boosted the area and paved the way for further investment in other developments.” Richard Moxon, National Judging Panel.

Our very own Tom Robbins and Sebastian Rowe travelled down to London to attend the awards ceremony which celebrate the most innovative projects in the country and their impact on local communities.
