Listed Buildings Conservation Ecclesiastical

The care of our heritage is now a fundamental part of our business. Our projects range from specialist conservation techniques to the use of modern approaches in design and construction to provide sensitive solutions to development of older buildings. We carry out Quinquennial inspections on churches and fabric condition surveys to facilitate planned maintenance.

We have completed award-winning additions to listed buildings and our experience extends to Grade 1 and Schedule Ancient Monuments. We are proactive in gaining funding through English Heritage, Heritage Lottery fund and other agencies.

SELECTED PROJECTS

St Mary's Church ST MARY'S CHURCH, WHITBY
The Phase 1 Repair programme concentrated on roof coverings and stone repairs to the prevailing elevations externally. We also successfully installed a supplementary heating and lighting installation for the Chancel.

We met the requirements of English Heritage including their archaeologist in providing these services in a sensitive and discrete way that enhances the interior of this magnificent church.

Contract: IFC 98

St Matthew's Church ST MATTHEW'S CHURCH, NABURN
One of the few redundant churches in England to return to being a place of worship. A major repair programme for complete re-roofing, stone repairs to the spire and lower parts, repairs and renewals to stained glass.

Internally toilet facilities, a small kitchen and a new heating and lighting installation were introduced. The works were funded largely by Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Friary Commmunity Hospital THE FRIARY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, RICHMOND
Greyfriars Tower marks the remains of the original 12th century friary and is a key structure within this group of historic buildings, which are listed Grade II individually and for their group value. The earliest building dates from the late 16th century with the main block from the 19th century.

The design was a result of close co-operation with the local planning conservation officers, English Heritage and North Yorkshire Archaeological Department and retained the significant historic parts and provided new sensitive and sympathetic additions. The creation of car parking was limited and the lawns retained to minimise impact on the underlying important archaeological remains.

Contract: JCT 1981 with Contractors Design
Value: £2.150.000
Completed: 1999
