At Pearce Bottomley Architects, we are committed to promoting the sustainability
of the built environment from the inception of each project. By using passive
solar design, natural ventilation, specification of traditional, local materials,
and the promotion of high thermal efficiency we can ensure that the carbon usage
and environmental impact of our buildings is minimised cost effectively.
We are able to design and manage projects to comply with Building Regulations
Part L and regularly select materials with reference to ‘The Green Guide to Specification’.
We have achieved BREEAM ‘excellent’ on two Environment Agency Offices - a new
build in Ely, Cambridgeshire and a refurbishment of an existing building in Peterborough.
In the past, we have also carried out our own environmental assessments on our
healthcare designs based on the NHS Environmental Assessment. This has recently
been replaced with BREEAM healthcare, in which we hope to achieve a minimum of
‘excellent’ on all our current healthcare schemes by working closely with other
members of the design team.
Our growing knowledge and use of renewable building technologies, including,
air and ground source heat pumps, wind turbines and solar thermal systems, enable
us to advise on sustainability, direct clients to the relevant specialists and
suppliers and help us to reduce the environmental effect of our designs.
