The PCC had long desired to provide facilities and improve access, including disabled access, at the church and to provide a Nave altar with more flexible seating in the crossing.  The church, which is grade II* was built in 1851-53 to a design by George Gilbert Scott.

The three month contract started in February 2008 and included the removal of the pews and platforms to the crossing to provide space for an extension to the Chancel floor level, in the form of a removable dais.  The former organ space was separated from the Chancel to provide a small kitchen, an accessible toilet and vestry.

The new kitchen is separated from the main body of the church by an oak screen, incorporating a door, hatch and glazed arched head.  The kitchen, also in oak, and the screen have been designed to compliment the fine quality of the church interior.

The project also included a new heating installation and lighting was added to the Chancel to illuminate, for the first time, the decorated barrel-vaulted ceiling.  Improvements were also made to the access externally, with the removal of the step to the south porch and a new path from the car park, lit by small bollards.
